Advance is a well-respected, award-winning and innovative women-only organisation, established in 1998, providing emotional and practical support to women experiencing domestic abuse and supporting women with custodial and community sentences to reduce offending. Title:                                  Peer Mentor Coordinator*

Contract:                          Permanent

Salary:                               £25,000 – £29,000 pa* (incl. London Weighting) depending on experience

(*£25,000 paid for those with less experience; £29,000 paid for those with considerable skills and experience  in similar or transferable roles).

Working hours:             Full Time – 35 hours, with some evening and weekend work required

Annual leave:                  30 days

Work Location:              Co-located in one or more London boroughs with travel to /across boroughs to provide targeted support to women as required.

The WrapAround Peer Mentor programme was set up to enable women with lived experience to have the opportunity to support women who are still involved in the Criminal Justice System. The role of the Peer Mentor is to support women in the WrapAround to access opportunities that enable them to make more positive choices. We have designed an intensive training programme for the Peer Mentors which gives them the tools they need to support women with complex needs.

The Peer Mentor Coordinator will

  • Continue to improve a well-established peer mentoring service to ensure that the needs of the service are met alongside the key workers
  • Recruit and train at least 15 Peer Mentors a year who are addressing key issues such as emotional management, healthy relationships and self-esteem with women,
  • Provide trauma-informed supervision to the Peer Mentors by providing both 1-2-1 and group work sessions
  • Work with Peer Mentors to provide a more tailored, specialised approach, focussing specifically on housing/homelessness, domestic abuse/sexual violence, mental health, emotional well-being, parenting and family relationships, Education Training and Employment and Finances, Benefit and Debt;
  • Where necessary, deliver appropriate group-based support programmes in order to empower women to move forward with their lives;
  • Work closely with Advance’s Minerva CR team, other Minerva WA partners (eg Hibiscus, Housing 4 Women and others), as well as local borough agencies (YOT’s, Youth Services, Education, Social Care, Police, Mental Health, Housing, Substance misuse and others) to improve the work of the peer mentors with the women
