Advance is a well-respected, award-winning and innovative women-only organisation, established in 1998, providing emotional and practical support to women experiencing domestic abuse and supporting women with custodial and community sentences to reduce offending. Advance delivers nationally accredited, quality marked services at the ‘high end of best practice’ in West London. As part of this project we are recruiting for an Outreach worker who has good experience of working with women experiencing multiple disadvantages to work alongside other professionals within the Advance team and our partners on this innovative project designed to deliver effective support to survivors and real and meaningful outcomes.

 Female* Outreach Worker – Hammersmith & Fulham X1

Contract:                            Fixed Term Contract until March 2020

Salary                                  £24,000 – £28,000 per annum incl. London Weighting, depending on experience*

(*£24,000 – £26,000 paid for those with less experience; £26,000 – £28,000 paid for those with considerable skills and experience

in similar or transferrable roles).

Annual Leave:                  30 days plus public holidays and 1 day for International Women’s Day

The outreach worker will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process specialising in working with clients for whom housing and risk of tenancy breakdown is a factor. They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support. Part of the role will to be to establish positive, proactive and innovative working relationships with housing services and hostels and with partner agencies within the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

The outreach worker will have at least one year’s experience working with women experiencing multiple disadvantages and ideally have experience supporting women who live on the streets. The post holder will be providing needs led support and advocacy to clients with housing issues. They will provide longer term support to women who are some of the most vulnerable, experiencing multiple needs (substance misuse, mental health, homeless) and VAWG. They will work mainly face to face and the ability to advocate for the rights of survivors when liaising with Housing professionals is essential. They will be based within our Head Office at Hammersmith alongside colleagues from the Angelou service and the Community & Co-location projects. They will move across the borough working from various locations as required to support their clients. This is a great opportunity to gain specialist knowledge around Housing whilst working within an experienced and supportive team where further career opportunities are constantly being developed.

All post holders will have a good understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children, and experience of providing advocacy and support for women experiencing multiple disadvantages. The post holders will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic violence, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision and being able to build partnerships with external agencies.
